A dating game inspired by Netflix’s ‘Love Is Blind’ is launching in Philly
Love Is Blind has vaulted to the top spot in the U. A post-production reunion show that rolled out on Thursday is helping keep the dating show percolating in pop culture relevance, but the show’s success is proof that Netflix doesn’t have to make entire seasons of new shows available at launch. You can chill without the binge. You can win in the new game of streaming with the formula that’s worked for generations through traditional media release dates.
Love Is Blind offers a seemingly hokey premise. A year ago there were 30 men and women going through several rounds of speed dating without being able to see one another.

Whenever they decided, the men were able to propose to the woman they want to get married to.
After the proposal, and meeting face-to-face for the first time, the engaged couples headed to a couples retreat in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. During this trip they spent time getting to know their partners, and were able to meet the other couples participating in the experiment. Trailer link. Lam, Lam and his roommate, Rance Nix, 28, are hoping to replicate the experiment virtually, as the new coronavirus has confined many people to their homes. In their project, Love Is Quarantine , the pods are cells on a Google spreadsheet.
The dates are phone calls. Lam and Mr. Nix are the ones doing all the matching. On Tuesday night, the first 30 contestants — who applied earlier that evening through a Google doc — were matched for dates. The group consisted of mostly straight couples, but they did have one gay match. After the dates, Mr.
Netflix’s dating show ‘Love is Blind’ will capture your attention, if not your heart
From Digital Spy. Love Is Blind is a marker of Netflix ‘s continued expansion into reality television, with a particular emphasis on finding the perfect dating format. As a viewer, it feels downright bizarre to see some of the contestants professing their love for one another in a matter of minutes or in their case, days but the idea that you can form a deep, emotional connection through distraction-free talking, and without passing judgement on someone’s appearance, is certainly an interesting one.
But then things don’t just stop there, because it’s a TV show and that would be boring. The new Netflix show “Love Is Blind” has brought a 21st century twist to a reality dating format that has been around since the beginning of television. And in doing so, it has taken over the lives of social media users unable to pry themselves away from their screens since its release this month. The show’s premise turns the dynamic of modern romance on its head: While most people use dating apps to select potential partners based on looks, contestants on “Love Is Blind” are meant to fall in love based on personality, before ever seeing each other.
The catch? Contestants who partner up after meeting in the show’s “dating pods,” where the hopefuls can hear but not see each other, will have to become engaged and agree to marry in a matter of weeks in order to actually meet. The show’s creator, Kinetic Content founder Chris Coelen, told NBC News in an email that he developed the concept based on the idea that “everyone wants to be loved for who they are on the inside.
Coelen said that while technology is meant to streamline dating, it often makes it more complicated and that what is meant to connect people can leave them feeling even more disconnected. That’s why, he said, “Love Is Blind” eliminated any visual, superficial element contestants could use to judge one another. While the extreme premise is one that has captured viewers’ attention, experts say the show isn’t that different from those at the dawn of television.
Although Netflix doesn’t release specific viewership numbers, the show has been a viral hit, tweeted about thousands of times as viewers devour the series, which had its finale Thursday. Friend, have u even showered? At this point I just resent every single thing which keeps me from watching Love is Blind.
On ‘Philly is Blind,’ you can watch local singles go on blind speed dates via Zoom video chat. The show is similar to the popular Netflix show ‘Love is Blind,’ with contestants looking for love in a competitive dating show. The show follows the format of Netflix’s “Love is Blind” where contestants looking for partners begin speed dating without being able to see who they are talking to.
If you’ve binged the entire series of Love Is Blind on Netflix with the rest of us, these are the dating TV shows to watch next.
When it comes to feel-good shows for the summer, it doesn’t get much better than Netflix’s Love on the Spectrum. It’s a reality TV dating show that focuses solely on people who are on the autism spectrum. Each episode highlights one or two different singles and, in two cases, couples, and their journey to find love. Given that those on the spectrum have difficulty in social situations, dating is pretty challenging.
But like everyone else, they crave social connections and ultimately love. While Netflix picked up the streaming rights for this series, it actually originally hails from Australia. It was produced by Northern Pictures for ABC a national public network in Australia, not the American network of the same name and aired on that network back in Consisting of five episodes in season one, the show was filmed entirely in Australia and so all participants are Australian.
The creator of the series, Cian O’Clery, actually got the idea and inspiration for Love on the Spectrum from doing other shows about people with disabilities. After working on the Australian documentary series Employable Me that shed light on how having a disability should not make someone unemployable, he came across an interesting and unexpected piece of information.
People on the autism spectrum might have difficulty with social interactions but that doesn’t mean they don’t want them. And O’Clery heard over and over again from those he worked with that they wanted to find love. And thus, the idea for Love on the Spectrum was born.

Kelvin lives at home with his Asian single dad, while designing computer renderings of his ideal partner and writing elaborate fan fiction in his journal with much creativity.

Mark is obsessed with dinosaurs and wants to become a paleontologist, speaking in a slow, methodical way that might be misconstrued as nerdy by non-dino enthusiasts. Love Is Blind was bizarre and immoral. I can’t wait for season two

Karma is a b tch. But people want what they want. Lauren: The funny thing is that the details kind of filled in after the fact. I mean, we knew that it was a dating show where you date someone in a pod or through a wall and, if it works out, eventually that you would get engaged sight-unseen and then married if all goes well. Cameron: Right. I mean, we were given that basic premise. Some of the details we were given kind of evolved over time.
It was left at pretty much — that was the [level of] detail. And I think they were kind of working out the technical specifics of it on the fly. But I know how it gets lonely, and ultimately we all do want someone to really love us for who we are.
